Vista: Oceania’s ‘superyacht’ offers small-ship escapes

Vista, the new “superyacht” from Oceania Cruises, debuted in May 2023 and immediately began turning heads. Its maiden voyage sold out in 90 minutes and bookings for its inaugural season broke Oceania’s record for bookings in a day.

Vista was Oceania's first new ship since its acquisition and makeover of Sirena in 2016 and its first new build since Riviera debuted in 2012. The first of two new 1,200-passenger ships in the Allura Class, the ship offers the same amenities found throughout the rest of the fleet, along with some new guest experiences and dining venues (see below).

Oceania officials say they designed Vista “to make you feel as though you’re sailing aboard your very own superyacht.” On board, look for an upscale Martini Bar, a stylish lounge with panoramic views, a beach club with a pool, a spa and wellness center and a casino.

The vessel features lavish interiors, top-notch amenities and white-glove service from 800 crew members for each guest. That comes to two crew for every three passengers, a ratio that augurs attentive, personalized service. Vista is also a bit roomier than its cousins Marina and Riviera: The new ship is slightly bigger and carries fewer passengers.

Who will like sailing on Vista

Vista is an upscale ship for travelers who like to explore new destinations, who prioritize fine dining and high-end beverages, and who enjoy chic surroundings. Just keep in mind this ship falls at the upper end of the upscale category and isn't a luxury cruise ship.

Where Vista sails

Vista offers wide-ranging itineraries in the Western Hemisphere. Some of the most in-demand destinations include the British Isles, Canada, the Mediterranean, Holy Lands and Panama Canal.

Public spaces on Vista

Vista features a number of social, recreation and wellness spaces across six of its 11 guest decks. The Grand Staircase, a staple of the Oceania brand, features sleek curves and a floor-to-ceiling pillar of crystal and light. The Grand Lounge, designed to evoke the feel of a private club, sports sleek alcoves and a gold-infused color palette, sculptural lighting and elegant lines.

A refashioned Martinis Bar serves as a central gathering space nestled among walls of shimmering glass. Horizons features floor-to-ceiling windows and 180-degree views while guests enjoy afternoon tea and take in a musical performance.

The Pool Deck features modern beach-club cabanas and places to gather poolside with a color palette that draws from nature. The Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center offers treatment areas, workout and personal training spaces as well as a new salon and barbershop. And Vista also debuted a holistic wellness center featuring a spa terrace with sweeping sea views.

Culinary-minded guests will be attracted to the Culinary Center, where chef instructors hold forth on culture and cuisine through the lens of food and wine – followed by a grand repast.

Dining options

One of the hallmarks of any Oceania sailing is the dining experience, among the best at sea. Here are the main dining venues on Vista:

The Grand Dining Room, spanning nearly two decks, pays homage to the early 20th century of Parisian society. In addition to traditional Continental dishes, the venue spotlights an array of signature Jacques Pépin dishes, a wide spectrum of global flavors and an all-new Executive Chef’s Tasting Menu. Menus change daily with an expansive choice of at least 10 appetizers, soups and salads and 10 dinner entrées, along with healthy options such as Aquamar Vitality Cuisine.

Ember is the new restaurant on board featuring a menu of inventive American creations blended with time-honored classics. Look for dishes such as braised short ribs on polenta, grilled swordfish with asparagus and crab cakes with spicy aioli. It's open for lunch and dinner.

Aquamar Kitchen places the focus squarely on wellness and healthy eating, offering tantalizing eats with none of the guilt. Breakfast selections include cold-pressed raw juices and super-food smoothies, hearty homemade granolas and avocado toasts and organic power bowls. For lunch, choose from slow-roasted organic salmon with quinoa tabouleh and lemon tahini, yellowfin tacos with white cabbage slaw or dozens of other healthy dishes.

Polo Grill is your classic steakhouse experience, replete with a richly layered setting, white linen tablecloths and black jacketed servers. You'll find 28-day dry aged certified Black Angus USDA Prime and seafood dishes such as grilled swordfish and whole Maine lobster gratinée.

Toscana presents an evolution of Tuscan cuisine in an authentic Italian setting of rich Chianina leather, hand-blown Venetian glass and Carrara marble. Many of the restaurant's recipes originated with the mothers and grandmothers of the Oceania staff's own Italian culinary staff. Classic dishes include hand-rolled gnocchi with pesto, a rich risotto with lobster medallions and shallots, and pan-seared sea bass filet finished with Sorrento lemon, Chardonnay and capers.

Red Ginger features Pan-Asian dishes that draw from Thai, Korean, Japanese and Malaysian culintary traditions. Think: spicy roast duck salad, Malaysian beef penang with coconut rice and paratha roti, or Thai vegetable curry with sweet potatoes, aubergine, mushrooms and basil in green curry sauce.

Terrace Café offers a breakfast menu of made-to-order eggs, omelets, pancakes and waffles. Come lunch, an expansive menu of international-inspired dishes is complemented by pizza or roasted and rotisserie meats. Dinner menus change daily and often reflect regional specialties from the ports of call.

Waves Grill is a casual spot for all-American favorites adjoining the ship's pool. Look for gourmet burgers, seafood and sandwiches made to order.

Priveé is Oceania's marquee venue for bespoke, intimate culinary celebrations for a maximum of 10 guests.

Baristas offers 270-degree sea views while guests enjoy complimentary illy espressos, cappuccinos and lattes as well as pastries, finger sandwiches and homemade biscotti.

Staterooms

Vista's staterooms and suites are divided into 2 main categories: Suites and Balcony Staterooms. While all offer luxurious comfort and stunning views, Suites take the experience to another level with additional amenities and personalized service.

Suites (Owner's, Vista, Oceania, Penthouse):

  • Spaciousness: Ranging from 440 sq. ft. to 2,400 sq. ft., with private balconies featuring whirlpool baths and lounge furniture.
  • Separate bedroom(s) with king beds and walk-in closets.
  • Multiple bathrooms: Master bathroom with whirlpool tub and shower, additional guest bathroom with shower.
  • Living room: Plush seating, dining area, mini-bar with unlimited drinks and water, HDTVs, Bose sound system.
  • Music room: Additional sea view space for relaxation.
  • Exclusive services: 24-hour butler service, priority embarkation, access to Executive Lounge with dedicated concierge, laundry service, in-suite bar setup, Aquamar Spa Terrace access, personalized amenities.

Balcony Staterooms:

  • Private balconies with teak verandas and lounge furniture.
  • Variety of sizes: Standard balcony, larger Concierge Balcony, spacious Veranda Staterooms.
  • Comfortable amenities: King or twin beds, bathroom with shower and/or tub, mini-bar, HDTVs, ample storage space.
  • Additional options: Solo/Studio staterooms for single travelers, interconnecting staterooms for families.

Key differences:

  • Size and layout: Suites are significantly larger with separate living areas and bedrooms, while Balcony Staterooms are more compact studio-style.
  • Amenities: Suites offer extensive extras like butler service, private lounge access, and personalized touches, while Balcony Staterooms provide comfortable base amenities.
  • Price: Suites come at a premium price compared to Balcony Staterooms.

We also like the fact that solo cruisers on Vista won't have to pay a supplemental fee for occupying a cabin meant for two.

Ultimately, the best choice depends on your budget and desired level of luxury and service. For an extravagant, pampered experience, Suites are the way to go. For a comfortable and enjoyable cruise with private balcony access, Balcony Staterooms offer excellent value.

Additional details

All staterooms and suites feature private balconies and beautifully appointed bathrooms with oversize rainforest showers, large vanities and lots of storage space. Penthouse, Oceania, and Vista Suites are ultra-spacious and true sea-going residences with an abundance of living and dining space for entertaining or simply relaxing.

Cabins include the Veranda Stateroom (291 square feet of living space including the private veranda), Concierge Level Solo Veranda Stateroom, Concierge Level Veranda Stateroom, Penthouse Suite (440 square feet), Oceania Suite (about 1,000 to 1,200 square feet), Vista Suite — the loftiest of locations, it affords sweeping 180-degree views and clocks in at 1,450 to 1,850 square feet of living space. Finally, an extravagant Master Suite features an extra-roomy wardrobe room and dressing area next to the oversized and sunlit Master Bath complete with porcelain soaking tub.
