Lima

Lima is a Peruvian seaport, located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers. Founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro as the “Ciudad de los Reyes”, it is today Peru’s largest city and capital. Lima is the largest city in Peru, with 30% of the Peruvian population living in Lima’s metropolitan area. After a devastating earthquake in 1746, which destroyed all but 20 houses, Lima was rebuilt with huge plazas and wide streets. Old houses from these days with artful carved balconies testify to this era.
