It's no surprise that Sir Richard Branson would be providing a musical backdrop to his new Virgin Voyages Cruise Line. After all, he was one of the founders of Virgin Records, a major player in the industry back in the 1970s.

The new cruise line recently announced its new curated musical identity, which looks to be  an incomparable experience for its ‘‘sailors,’’ as Branson likes to call their passengers. He also is placing new DJ residencies, a record shop and a karaoke lounge on board.

It seems the line is launching a fierce approach to music that might just break seafaring records.

When the line's first ship, Scarlet Lady, debuts in 2020, look for a new record shop on board. Voyage Vinyl will provide personal listening stations, limited-edition vinyl collections with playlists by Virgin Voyage’s past and present DJs and a performance spot for live DJ sets by Scarlet Lady’s resident DJs.

Then there will be The Groupie,  a bookable karaoke, gaming and movie lounge, designed as a modernist take on a Japanese-style karaoke room for guests (sorry, Sir Richard) to enjoy singing along to their favorite tunes with friends.

It's all pretty exciting especially for music lovers.

Scarlet Lady is scheduled to debut in Miami in 2020. She is hardly your ordinary cruise ship. The Lady was designed to reflect a yacht’s sleek luxury.

The adults-only ship will offer a seagoing sanctuary for travelers age 18 and up. "A dose of ‘Vitamin Sea’ will be naturally intertwined across the entire ship, with well-being activated through a mix of high-energy moments coupled with relaxation and rejuvenation," according to a press release.

Sailors will stay well fed at any of 20 restaurants -- all free to passengers. Thirsts will be quenched with complimentary soft drinks. And fitness maintained with free workouts.

The Scarlet Lady will sail from Miami to the Caribbean. She can carry 2,770 passengers who will be taken care of by a crew of 1,160.  Stay tuned for more here at Cruiseable and at virginvoyages.com.
