Our review
Sun Princess: Largest ship in fleet features slew of new features & amenities
Sun Princess, the first Sphere class ship from Princess Cruises, debuted in early 2024 with a season of sailings in the Caribbean in the winter and in the Mediterranean in the summer.
The largest ship ever built for Princess at 175,500 gross tons, the ship is 20 percent larger than any of the line’s existing ships. The goal of the Sphere class of ship is to embrace the Princess heritage while celebrating the romance of the sea by offering more dynamic, outward views.
The ship features more than 1,500 balconies and 29 restaurants and bars throughout 21 decks. Guests can experience new innovative areas such as the Dome, the Piazza and the Princess Arena. You'll also find new or reimagined dining venues, an expanded casino, a two-story Lotus Spa and aerial entertainment headlined by Cirque Éloize.
Where Sun Princess sails
Sun Princess offers itineraries in the Med and Caribbean:
- Spring to fall: The ship features a variety of 10- to 27-night sailings around the Mediterranean and Greek islands with stops in Santorini, Istanbul, Mykonos, Athens (Piraeus), Kotor, Barcelona, Gibraltar, Naples, Genoa, Mallorca (Majorca) and other ports.
- Fall to spring (October to March): The ship sails 7- and 14-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries round-trip from Ft. Lauderdale with stops in Cozumel, Belize, Grand Turk, Amber Cove, Costa Maya and elsewhere.

What's included in your fare
Like other Princess ships, Sun Princess bundles most core cruise essentials into the base fare: accommodations; main dining rooms; the buffet; select casual venues; non-specialty snacks; standard beverages such as water, coffee, tea, and basic juices; plus most entertainment and many shipboard activities.
Princess’ value proposition is flexible because many guests add Princess Plus or Princess Premier packages for Wi‑Fi, gratuities, and beverage and specialty dining enhancements. If you are considering Sanctuary Collection accommodations on Sun Princess, note that Princess positions this as an elevated tier that includes exclusive spaces and premium inclusions tied to that booking category.
Dining options
Sun Princess is built for “dine-around” cruising. Princess advertises an expanded collection of restaurants and bars, mixing familiar line favorites with several newer concepts introduced for Sphere Class. In practice, you can keep things simple with the main dining rooms and buffet, or you can treat the ship like a floating restaurant district and plan your evenings around specific venues.
Complimentary dining centers on the main dining rooms and buffet, supported by quick, casual options for snacks and lighter meals. Princess’ classics — such as Crown Grill (steakhouse) and Sabatini’s (Italian) — remain part of the lineup, giving repeat Princess guests the comfort of known quantities while the ship adds new variety around them.
For specialty dining, Sun Princess introduces headline experiences that are designed as events rather than just meals. Love by Britto is a prix fixe, art-forward dinner concept created in partnership with Romero Britto. Makoto Ocean brings a chef-driven Japanese and seafood focus from Makoto Okuwa. And Spellbound is positioned as a “hidden” experience that blends dining, cocktails, and intimate magic for a night that feels closer to a ticketed show than a standard restaurant reservation.
Strategy tip: If you are sailing a port-intensive itinerary, keep lunch casual and save your energy for dinner reservations. On sea days, specialty dining is a good way to break up the day — particularly if you pair it with time in The Dome or an evening production in the Princess Arena.
Staterooms
Sun Princess has 2,157 staterooms in total, including 80 suites, with Princess emphasizing balcony-heavy inventory and a modernized design language for its newest class. Expect a clean, contemporary look and the typical Princess strengths: comfortable beds, practical storage, and bathrooms designed for cruise-ship efficiency.
A key differentiator on Sun Princess is the Sanctuary Collection, a category tier that links certain accommodations to exclusive spaces and enhanced service. Rather than being a single gated enclave, it is an access-and-amenities model: book into the eligible Sanctuary categories and you receive privileges such as private dining at the Sanctuary Restaurant and access to the Sanctuary Club.
Families and groups should also look at connecting and accessible stateroom options, which are plentiful on newbuilds and can materially improve the onboard experience. For longer voyages, a mini-suite or suite can pay dividends in storage, seating space, and balcony time—especially on itineraries with more sea days.
Activities on board
Sun Princess puts more emphasis on active fun than many earlier Princess ships, largely thanks to Park19, the top-deck family activity zone. Princess built this area as a multi-generational playground that adds adrenaline and participation—useful if you want more than pools and trivia between ports.
Park19’s signature attraction is Sea Breeze, billed by Princess as a first-at-sea “Rollglider” style ride that lets riders glide above the top deck. Nearby, Coastal Climb adds a visual, climb-and-view experience that is easy to spot even if you are not the adventurous type. The result is a ship that can satisfy both “I want a quiet sea day” and “I want to do something memorable before lunch.”
Beyond the headliners, the onboard day can be as structured or as unstructured as you want: pool time, spa time, fitness classes, enrichment programming, shopping, games, and social events. Princess’ MedallionClass service model supports on-demand ordering and location-based conveniences that make it easier to treat the ship like a resort—find your favorite spot, settle in, and let the day come to you.
If you are sailing with mixed interests, plan to split and reconvene: adventurous guests can book Park19 time while others prioritize The Dome, the spa, or a quiet lounge. The ship’s scale makes it possible for different “micro-vacations” to happen simultaneously.
Entertainment
Princess designed Sun Princess around multiple entertainment stages rather than a single main theater. The Princess Arena is the technical centerpiece, built to “shape-shift” for different productions and to bring audiences closer to the action. It is complemented by The Dome, which functions as both a daytime relaxation space and an evening performance venue.
Princess has promoted a slate of purpose-built productions for Sun Princess across these venues, along with Piazza events and smaller-format live music. The practical benefit is choice: you can do a big show, a more intimate Dome performance, or simply treat the Piazza as your nightly “stroll and see what’s happening” hub.
As with most large ships, popular shows can fill quickly, especially on sea days or short itineraries. If a specific production is a priority for your group, handle reservations early once you are onboard and build dinner timing around your show schedule.
Dress code
Princess’ dress code is generally relaxed during the day—think resort casual appropriate for sun, wind, and shore excursions. For evenings, the vibe trends toward smart casual, with some guests choosing to dress up more for specialty dining, photography, or formal nights.
The best approach is to pack for flexibility: a light layer for breezy decks, comfortable shoes for long port days, and one or two nicer outfits if you enjoy the social aspect of evenings on a flagship ship.
Reality check
Sun Princess is a true mega-ship, which means it can feel busy at peak moments—embarkation day, sea-day brunch windows, and just before headline shows. The upside is enormous choice; the tradeoff is that you will want to use reservations (for dining and entertainment) and practice a bit of “time-shifting” to avoid the biggest crowds.
Princess’ add-on ecosystem is also worth understanding upfront. Many guests sail base-fare-only and have a terrific trip, but packages (Plus/Premier), specialty dining, premium beverages, spa treatments, and select experiences can add up. Decide in advance whether you are building a value-focused vacation or a fully upgraded one, and plan accordingly.
Finally, because Sun Princess rotates between regions, verify the exact sailing season you are considering. The ship’s onboard experience is highly consistent, but the overall “feel” of the trip shifts materially between port-intensive Mediterranean itineraries and sea-day-friendly Caribbean loops.
What's not included
Specialty dining restaurants, premium beverages, spa treatments, most shore excursions, and gratuities (unless you purchase a package that bundles them) are typically extra. Some signature experiences—such as ticketed dining events—may require advance planning and an additional fee.
Wi‑Fi is commonly sold via packages or per-day plans, and boutique fitness classes or premium seating/experiences may carry charges. Review the current Princess package inclusions for the sailing you book, because the line updates package structures over time.
Fun facts
