Seven Seas Splendor: Comfort & elegance at sea

The 750-passenger luxury ocean ship Seven Seas Splendor from Regent Seven Seas is, simply put, one of the most gorgeous, elegant ships at sea. Nearly identical to its sister ship Seven Seas Explorer, Splendor debuted in 2020 and features all-suite, all-balcony accommodations and voyages to small, charming ports like Malaga and the Cote d'Azur in the Mediterranean and Curacao and Guadeloupe in the Caribbean.  

Step aboard and you'll be wowed by the crystal chandeliers, tasteful furnishing and fine artwork throughout the ship. Dining is a delight, with a choice of French, modern European, Italian, pan-Asian and American fare — and all meals and drinks are included. Your fare also includes at least one shore excursion in every port.

This elegant ship sails to some of our favorite ports in the Mediterranean (Santorini, Rhodes, Kusadasi, Barcelona, Kotor, Monte Carlo) from spring to fall. Then it crosses the Atlantic and offers voyages around the Caribbean (San Juan, Key West, Guadeloupe, Costa Maya, Bonaire, St. Lucia, from November to April. It also features the occasional jaunt to Northern Europe (Tallinn, Scandinavia, St. Petersburg, Russia).

Entertainment and activities

When not in port, daytime activities include sunbathing at the pool, mini-golf, bocce, Ping-Pong, cornhole and shuffleboard tournaments on deck. A highlight (though for an extra fee) are the cookery demos in the theater. Throughout the voyage you'll find first-rate service from solicitous crew members.

Evenings on board the ship are filled with music — a cabaret show as well as karaoke by guests and crew — plus comedy acts, casino action and chilling at one of the three inside lounges or poolside bar.

Staterooms

Suites are beautifully appointed and feature some of the largest spaces at sea. Every stateroom comes with a furnished private balcony, which are among the largest on any cruise ship. 

A Veranda Suite and Deluxe Veranda run from 219 to 253 square feet for the inside living space. The Superior Suite runs 332 square feet. Then there's the Concierge Suite (332 square feet), Penthouse Suite (450 sf), Seven Seas Suite (577 sf), Splendor Suite (655 sf), Grand Suite (sf), Master Suite (1,064-1,114 sf) and crazy-big Regent Suite (3,151 square feet with a 1,292-square-foot balcony), which will set you back $11,000 per night. (Note: the Regent Seven Seas website includes the veranda as part of the cabin size.)

Rooms feature two European Elite Slumber twin beds that can be combined to create a queen or king bed, two nightstands, a walk-in closet (except for Veranda Suites), writing desk/dressing table, a magnifying mirror at the desk and phone. You'll also find a TV with movies on demand, a seating area, safe, mini-bar, hair dryer, bathrobe and slippers and alarm clock. Bathrooms are appointed with marble and stone and feature magnifying mirror and shave sockets and a lovely walk-in rainforest-style shower with adjustable settings.

Cruise Critic reports: “Passengers on Seven Seas Splendor skew toward 60 plus. Most passengers are from North American and Australian, with some from the U.K. Most Regent Seven Seas passengers are not new to cruising and have sailed with the line before. Seven Seas Splendor is not geared toward young families with children — the ship has no kids' clubs, though some light programing is offered during the school holidays. The ship is ideally suited to couples and multigenerational groups (i.e., families with grown-up children). Passengers are wealthy and typically very well-traveled. All announcements are in English.”
